Pancake Day

Helau! Gestern, am Faschingsdienstag, haben sich hier in unserem neuen deutschen Zuhause gleich zwei Traditionen getroffen – wir hatten also doppelten Grund zum Feiern! Zum einen durfte Tom seinen ersten Faschingsumzug erleben und damit in die deutsche Narrenzeit eintauchen. Zum anderen, haben wir den englischen Pancake-Day zelebriert, der den Beginn der Fastenzeit in England einläutet. Beide Traditionen passen ja auch thematisch ganz gut zueinander, weshalb wir am Nachmittag in Stuttgart bei herrlich kaltem Kaiserwetter die Hexen und Funkenmariechen bejubelt haben und abends den Tag mit frischgebackenen Pfannkuchen ausklingen lassen konnten. Was hat es also nun mit dieser britischen Tradition auf sich? Wie bereits erwähnt, findet der Pancake-Day am Abend vor Beginn der Fastenzeit statt. Moving to Germany 1

Long time, no read! It’s been ages since my last post and I sincerely apologise for the absence of new stories! First things first: I have not forgotten about the blog and I am still keen to carry on feeding you with recipes and posts from the German-English world. The only tiny little thing that stopped me writing was our move from Liverpool to Ludwigsburg, Germany. I can tell you: the last two months have been a hell of a lot of work, packing, sorting, organising and adapting to a new life. Why? Since the beginning of January I can call myself a teaching trainee (german: Referendarin) and real work life has started. Hence, the move to Germany and the lack of time to blog. My first blog from our new German home is about the troubles we have had and some recommendations to all (EU/English) people, who decide to leave their home country behind in order to experience the German way of life.
